Food in February

Last week was a busy food week for us! What about you!? Valentine's Day, Fat Tuesday, and the beginning of Lent. All good reasons to eat, eat, eat!

We started the week off with chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day! We recently discovered this little bakery in Allison Park called A Sweet Morsel Co. When we picked up the strawberries, it was extremely hard to resist also buying some ladylocks! They just looked so pretty but we decided that the strawberries would take care of our sugar fix for the week. It was hard to decide between the white chocolate or milk chocolate so obviously the decision was to get both! Neither one disappointed. Make sure to check out their Instagram! Not that we really need a reason but Mardi Gras, or FAT TUESDAY, is definitely a great excuse to over eat. The name of the day practically makes you! Last year, we went to Dive Bar and Grille in Wexford. DiveBarandGrille.com It was absolutely delicious and we ordered several appetizers as our dinner. (I'm just going to say it... we are suckers for a good appetizer.) Somehow we still left room for a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream. This year, we decided that we should repeat the the visit. We couldn't sit at the bar, a change that we are still working to get used to, but we made the best of take-out. Our favorite appetizer is the Reuben Rolls. The crispy, crunchy outside and the mouth-watering inside. And you must dip in the thousand island sauce. We also added an order of the loaded croquettes. And since it was Mardi Gras, we felt the Po' Boy crab cake sandwich would be appropriate. Dive Bar and Grille has locations in South Side, Lawrenceville, Wexford, Glenshaw, and Regent Square so make sure to visit one that's closest to you.

For fish frys, we usually like to support the local churches. They're all mostly on the take-out train as well so the wait times seem to be a little longer but the satisfaction is still on point. Most of these places are run by volunteers as well, so it is immensely encouraging to see community run events still be successful. Our go-to church is St. Alphonsus in Wexford and you can order for pickup on their website SaintAidanParish.org. Let us know your favorite fish fry place so we can try it out!
